June 8, 2009 we went to the Pawnee Buttes near Grover, Colorado. We wanted to see what kind of wildflowers are in bloom. We did not go to photograph the Buttes but rather to enjoy the quiet and solitude of the wide open spaces. With a little bit of rain, nature abounds in all it's splendor. Located 65 miles northwest of Greeley are the Pawnee National Grasslands in a sparsly populated area. No traffic lights, no parking meters; as a matter of fact, traffic is almost non-existent. This is a place of peace and tranquility where you can go and forget about all your problems, then come back renewed and refreshed from the experience. Cedar Creek Windfarm, with 275 windmills that generate 300 megawatts of power, co-exists with nature and farmers' wheat crops as well. Many relics of yesteryear, such as old barns and rusting old farm equipment, can be seen as well. Many windmills from new to old are to be found.

On Saturday May 16, 2009, a roundtable meeting was held at the Greeley, Colorado Senior Center to hear local farmers and small business men ask for help in obtaining loans. The crisis caused by the New Frontier Bank being shutdown on April 10th by the FDIC. The closing of the bank left a $700 million hole in the local economy and left farmers unable to obtain loans right at the time when they need to be planting crops.
Senators Mark Udall, Michael Bennett, Congresswoman Betsy Markey, FDIC's Ron Bieker, Colorado Agriculture Commissioner Ron Stulp, Chris Chavez from the Small Business Association, Gary Wall from the USDA Farm Service Agency, Mike Flesher Executive Vice President from the Mountain Plains Farm Credit Services, President of Bank of Choice Darrell McAlister, Don Childears President & CEO of Colorado Bankers Association, the moderator of the meeting was Richard Pickett Director of the Greeley/Weld Small Business Development Center.
Local business men and farmers asked the panel if TARP funds could be made available to help. Windsor Mayor John Vazquez, State Senator Scott Renfro, and other local farmers & businessmen asked for help.
