While living and working in Alice Springs in 1975, I photographed Chambers Pillar located about 95 miles down the Old
South Road from Alice Springs. Getting to Chambers Pillar is an all day trip in a Jeep. Maryvale Station is a cattle station at about midway to Chambers Pillar. John MacDouall Stuart first recorded Chambers Pillar in April 1860 whilst traveling north on his
first attempt to cross Australia. He named it after James Chambers, one of his South Australian sponsors. |
